Jean-Pierre Peugeot, boss of Peugeot Automobiles, the car company, decided to create a high profile football club. The Football Club Sochaux was born. Mister Peugeot recruited the best players, French and international football stars, and made no secret of the fact that he paid the players to play for his club.
Nowadays the first professional club of France count 66 seasons in the highest division, a national record.
