In their third away game FCSM have to travel home again without any points. This time Olympique Marseille were too strong although the Sochaliens long time kept hope to equalise. A goal of Taiwo, blown by the wind and a second of Lucho secured the win before Nicolas Maurice-Belay reduced the score for the Jaune and Bleu.

On the seventh Matchday of Ligue 1, number five FC Sochaux-Montbéliard visit Olympique de Marseille, champions of France during the 2009-2010 season and current number eight in the table. The Sochaliens lost twice unlucky at AS Saint-Etienne and Stade Rennais FC and hope to rectify this record tonight at Stade Vélodrome while Marseille play next week against Chelsea FC in the Champions League.

The winds blows the ball...
Francis Gillot; FCSM head coach, decided to fortify his midfield where Carlão takes the place of Nicolas Maurice-Belay. Brown Ideye is fit enough to start in the line up. In the sunny seaport blows a heavy Mistral, the local strong wind. It's Marseille André-Pierre Gignac who's the first to be dangerous in the first minutes of the game. Marseille get some corner kicks but can't confirm in front of Matthieu Dreyer. The Sochaliens this first period against the wind and sometimes struggle to clear the ball. Brown Ideye, too far out of position, tend a bicycle kick but can't beat Mandanda, out of his goal as the ball goes wide. Some minutes later, left back Taye Taiwo surprisingely sends a centre or tries his luck from he side line and the ball sails over Dreyer into the goal. The Sochaliens, who weren't that bad in position during the game, have to deal with this knock. They intend to play their own passing game but only Perquis comes close as he just can send in a header after a corner.

To less to equalise
The second half seems to become more open than the first period. Mandanda intervents before Ideye can fire on goal. On the other side Lucho splits the FCSM defence with a fine pass on Valbuena. The midfielder loses his one to one duel with Dreyer as the FCSM goalie is well positioned. Bréchet can't change the score line neither as his longe range effort goes just wide. Ideye and Maïga can keep possession up front where they well use their individual qualities but FCSM are unable to create any open chances. The stadium exploses as Azpilicueta's throw in lands finally in front of Lucho who's free to finish this opportunity. Substitute Nicolas Maurice-Belay is the last element of a long attack and reduces the score with fifteen minutes left. Marseille in return is closer to add one than Sochaux to equalise. Gignac hammers the ball on the bar and Perquis clears the ball on the line. FCSM try to come back but their efforts ain't enough to take home a point and lose their third away game in a row.

Francis Gillot :
"In the first half the wind influenced both teams. Taiwo tried to send in a centre as he scored and on the second goal we made a mistake. We were warned for this throw-ins. This goal killed our game there we could have taken home a point. When we played our passing game they were in trouble. We lost our away games against the current leadres of this competition, nothing to be ashamed off."

Didier Deschamps :
"The result is the most important achievement of the evening. We could have avoid being into troubles during the last minutes of the game. We create a lot of occasions but we only made two tonight. We played a good team with very technical players. We have to appreciate the fact that we have beaten this team. I don't think Taiwo had the intention to score a goal like this but all credits to him."
